hey you-all.

•sunday i returned from three weeks touring Israel.  words can’t even describe the experience…except that it’s crazy.  historically, politically, and geographically. made some amazing friends and got profoundly inspired.  and i spent the whole trip with vosotros family member and NY keyboard extraordinaire Sam Barsh, as well as his brother Sy.  as vosotros concert goers know, Sam graced us with his skills at the lazy susan release show in February, turning the party out.  Sam brought his famed melodica to the promised land and turned the party out there too.  video on the way.

•some music that i found myself listening to in Israel:
GEORGIA ANNE MULDROW. I REPEAT! GEORGIA ANNE MULDROW!  she is amazing.  i mean really amazing.   her record, olesi: fragments of an earth  is out on stones throw. it’s an experience.  check her out, now.

Hamlet Gonashvili.  Hailed as the voice of Georgia (the country), he sings traditional Georgian folk music. His voice is transparent, and the music is mainly acapella, with the typical accompaniment of three supporting voices.  I can’t stop listening to him…beauty

finally, shout out to my new friend sarah, and hair braider.

yallah bye,

Fareed/Hello Mexico? i mean what’s up…/Where’s Touhy?

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

•I’m currently in Indianapolis blogging from the famed Amerisuites hotel…a solid hit last night with guitar wizard Fareed Haque (see six thirty) at the Jazz Kitchen, and today we hit the road again to Yellow Springs, Ohio to rock Peaches Grill…Fareed is an incredible musician and great guy, and it’s always nice to feel that midwest love even if only for a weekend.————————–> www.fareed.com
•But I won’t be in LA for very long either. Thursday I set out again with reedist Adrián Terrazas-González (The Mars Volta) and drummer Gene Coye (My Moon Boots, Masunday) for a series of shows around Mexico. Adrián’s music is seemingly melange of electric improvised music and mexican folk songs.
check him out.——————–>www.myspace.com/adrianterrazasgonzalez
•Touhy has gone the way of Saltar, and somehow been misplaced on the northside of Chicago. When I get back to Chi on Sunday, Ill check the bathroom at Irvings. stay tuned…

Tonight I am excited to play with BRAM at the Bordello (formerly Little Pedros). It’s a really fun band consisting of three of Vosotros’ closest friends, Marcel Camargo, Barbara Gruska, and John Kirby—all of whom have guest on The Lazy Susan. And Bram Inscore leads; he’s a great songwriter/multi-instrumentalist who can be found performing with Peeping Tom, Electrocute, and other great bands around town!———-> www.myspace.com/wearebram

And this Thursday Vosotros was asked to perform late late night at The Echoplex for the Silverlake Art Crawl. C’mon out for art! @ 1am——–> www.attheecho.com

live@land – This Thursday! (sept 27)

Monday, September 24th, 2007

Hello You-All.
We are especially excited for this month’s Vosotros in Little Tokyo!
Performing along with The Carrot and Stick (this months Lazy Susan) will be A++ and Ing, two interesting bands with interesting names…A++ is a water bed filled with Cholula© hot sauce, and Ing is the sound of Bowie brushing his teeth before laying down on that water bed of Cholula©. And The Carrot and Stick is a soft rock band. ing has already been podcasted (check out “sixty-six”), and get ready for the A++ jam, “We Like It When Animals Fuck Up People.” And continuing the animal notary, look out for the aptly titled “Donkeys” from The Carrot and Stick!

See you there!!!!!

Chicago vs. L.A.: no contest

Big Ups & tiny downs!!

I’m currently in Chicago- a most soulful place from which John and I come. Really love it here. It has the big city flavor, but has so much heart (unlike…uh…nevermind). The creative music scene is totally happening too! Lots of music for the sake of music (unlike…uh…nevermind). Some noteables from this trip home;

Greg Ward- an incredible alto saxophonist, composer, and great guy. He is forging new ground with his music, and quickly becoming a mainstay in Chicago’s scene, playing with everybody. He was recently commissioned to compose a piece for members of the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) to be premiered by himself and members of the CSO this September!! so much music!!—————->www.gregward.org

Midwest Buy and Sell- Chicago’s best kept secret for electric guitars and basses. Yesterday I picked up a 60’s Japanese Teisco guitar for my brother (belated birthday present) and a ‘71 Gibson SG bass!!! (for those of you that don’t geek out like this, its the model Angus Young rocks in ACDC) The guys at MWBnS are super cool and their vintage instruments aren’t tagged at face-melting prices (unlike…uh…nevermind).————–> www.mwbuynsell.net

The Hungry Brain- A great venue for music in Chicago. Tonite I am excited to be joining NY trumpeter extraordinaire Jacob Wick and drummer Frank Rosaly for an evening of improvised music. Chicago has a rich tradition of improvised music (AACM & Art Ensemble to name a few) and the Hungry Brain is a great spot to catch the finest in social music. ———————————————–> www.emergingimprovisers.org

Tomorrow I leave the heart & soul and return to the long legs & tuna tartar…each has its merits I suppose. Well, that’s it! Holla at a playa in the 213 : Holla at a playa in the 312.
