The Origins of Vosotros

Monday, January 19th, 2009

John and I met in 7th grade Spanish class.  And later, after attending the same high school, and while attending the same college, we began vosotros.  And after seeing the following SNL clip, I was struck with such nostalgia I decided to link to it…enjoy.

Most Abstract

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

y’all-

well, the roots remix contest finally came to a close…and while vosotros won’t be recording a new song with them, they did bestow my remix with an award  all its own-  Most Abstract!  There were over three hundred entries,  so i was pleased to be recognized at all…

have a listen here

g

p.s. thanks to everyone who voted for me in the first round, and ?uestlove and co. in the second…I couldn’t have not done it without you!

Monday they predict the storm…

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

hey you-all.

im still in hong kong until tomorrow, where the internet dips in and out, so i haven’t been able to surf, let alone check my email…but i finally got online, and checked this remix contest I entered for the roots…and im in 2nd place!  it features a sample of a song from the upcoming vosotros release, The Years.  This particular track features Sam Barsh on keys, Gene Coye on Drums, and myself on bass.  I took a day between shows to create the remix, only to find in the fine print that it couldn’t contain any samples…so i had to take them out.  so i decided to post the original here: criminal_vosotros_remix

it features samples from michael jackson, KRS-1, Public Enemy, and Biggie…

hope you enjoy it, and i’ll see you-all back in LA on sat.

mooey moobau tonight/first bass accolades

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

buenos tardes a vosotros-

•Mooey Moobau tonight!!

The third installment of the Obi Best residency at Tangier is tonight, and Mooey Moobau will be performing alongside Readers and (naturally) Obi Best.  I would describe Mooey’s music as David Byrne meets Picasso.  It’s wild! Joe is a super-talented, super-creative cat. He is also a noted speech pathologist. His most recent record, entitled “All Murmur of Our Mother’s Waters” is a sonic journey and definitely worth checking out.  Order it here!!!

And stay tuned for a mooey moobau/vosotros collab affectionately refered to as moosotros…

•First Bass!

Last October, Vosotros was hired to score a short film about a young bass player and Chicago Cubs fan, and her audition for a prestigious music school. Naturally this movie hit close to home personally (bass! Chicago!). And little did we know that the creators were submitting the short to festivals all around the U.S.A.!!! And now we’ve been nominated for an award!!

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

DC Shorts Film Festival- we are nominated for best song “Zoom!” register here and vote for us!!!

until then, you-all.

•you gotta have friends! that’s what it’s all about!

my new friends, The Sweet Hurt.

led by songstress Wendy Wang, TSH is a wonderful band! Mellow & Beautiful. I played cello at their CD release party at Pehrspace this past weekend and had a blast. We also shared the bill with some slightly older friends, Colorforms! Alex Lilly is sssooo talented & awesome!

Tonight was a musical adventure, too. Went to the secret Beck warm up show at the Echo and saw the homie B.R.A.M. (aka Brandon Square) tear it up on bass…super yeah! Then we went to Spaceland and saw the homies Willoughby, which consists of Gus Seyffert, Mike Green, Charlie Wadhams, and Brandon Square. They were great.

How linked is this entry?

that’s all for now…stay tuned for juan’s super exciting blog about the future of music…
